Center for Metal Arts will host its first annual forging conference on September 11th, 2021. The featured demonstrator for the conference is Jake James and his demonstration will be held in the historic Cambria Iron Company’s blacksmith shop utilizing the #3000 Chambersburg utility hammer. Jake’s Philosophy behind his forge work, “Approach iron as an idea. From an idea anything can be grown. From iron, anything can be forged,” is what drives his sculpture and gives his work a voice that stands out as a contemporary blacksmith. Jake pushes the way one typically thinks about forging iron, he thinks outside the box and helps you realize that blacksmithing can be much more than a single man standing at an anvil. Encouraging experimentation, Jake’s work embodies all the wonderful qualities of iron and how it can be manipulated through heat and pressure.
